One of my roles at Benedictine is that of advisor to The Candor, which is the student-led media on campus. Small schools have to pick their focus, they simply don't have enough staffers to cover everything on campus. The Candor is known for its news and investigative reporting, though we do well with sports too. Below are a few of the top projects, stories and podcasts that The Candor has produced; I'm very proud of the work they do.

The Benedictine’s Head Men’s Basketball coach, said the N-word to a Black player on his team during an open gym Tuesday.
A former monk at St. Procopius Abbey and instructor at St Procopius College, Benedictine University’s predecessor, was one of nearly 400 Catholic religious officials named in a report last week on sexual abuse within the church.
Benedictine University’s enrollment has dropped nearly 20% from Fall 2014 to Fall 2017 for traditional undergrads at the Lisle campus, according to a study by the Candor. There were also 276 fewer traditional undergrads in Lisle from Fall 2016 to Fall 2017, according to a memo sent March, 2018 from the office of Benedictine President Michael Brophy.

Sports Reporting

A male Benedictine coach and female student athlete are allegedly involved in a romantic relationship. This raises questions about the ethical implications of the relationship and what the policies are against it.
“You don’t need a tragedy to ask for help,” said Mark Hilinski. Mark and Kym Hilinski were at Benedictine to talk about their son, who committed suicide on Jan. 16, 2018, while at Washington State University. Benedictine students, many of which are student-athletes, gathered on Friday to hear the Hilinski’s tell their son’s story and advocate for the mental health of student-athletes.
