Chris Birks
Ever since I was eight years old, watching Kolchak: The Night Stalker, I knew I wanted to be a journalist. I was fortunate enough to have a nearly 20 year career working for newspapers in Michigan (Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo), Kentucky (Bowling Green), Florida (Scripps Treasure Coast) and Illinois (Crystal Lake and Geneva.) I've also taken assignments in Haiti, China, the Philippines and Honduras; the Honduras stories are posted in the Writing section of this site. I am currently an Associate Professor in the Communication Arts department at Benedictine University in Lisle, IL. (Chicago suburb) where I have been since 2009. I teach journalism, web design and digital publishing. I am also the founder of The Comfy Chair Publishing company, which is a student run business that produces children's books for sale on Amazon. The one constant element of my life is my (foolish?) support and love of the Detroit Lions, which has never waned. |
