I always loved designing pages and wonder if all photographers would make solid page designers (and vice versa) due to the same basic visual language both use. I am very grateful to the newspapers that allowed me step out of my traditional role as a photojournalist and try my hand at design, newsrooms tend to be open to journalists exploring new areas. This is a story by a staff photographer about a local doctor who helps the homeless population of Chicago.
This was a story I photographed and designed. A reporter and I followed U.S. Route 14 from start to finish; it's the major roadway that connects the northwest suburbs with Chicago.
